Psychotherapy
I view my work with clients as a profound and meaningful collaboration. It’s a safe and welcoming relationship in which pain can be explored and one’s own voice heard.
Therapy is also a space for humor, authenticity, and life-giving creativity. In short, psychotherapy mirrors the human journey, and we bring to therapy not only our problems, but also our deepest strengths and potential.
I am licensed as a Marriage & Family Therapist in the state of California, and my therapy practice is located in Pasadena, in the Los Angeles area.
Approaches
In our work together, my most sacred task is to listen deeply. I want to understand what you have encountered in life and how it has shaped you. I’m curious about your inner strengths and outer resources. I want to know what made your heart sing as a child and young person. I am eager to hear about your soul life, and about what nurtures and what depletes you.
This witnessing allows the form of your story to unfold for both of us. It invites the shape behind the story to step forward.
In addition to traditional talk therapy, I integrate the following approaches for those who are interested:
Dream Work
While it can be useful to observe the associations we have to our dreams and to interpret them intellectually, stopping there means missing out on the true gold that dreams yield.
The figures that appear in our dreams are living metaphors, surfacing into our awareness from the unconscious soul. They deliver deep wisdom, beckon us to lost or neglected parts of ourselves, and guide us to wholehearted existence.
Expressive Arts
SoulCollage® was developed by Seena Frost to provide a direct way to engage the wisdom of the soul. This creative practice can also be a profound way to heal from and integrate past wounds and trauma.
The SoulCollage® cards you create through this process can begin to make sense of the seemingly isolated bodies of experience and pain you’ve encountered. Wounded and neglected parts find voice and comfort. A mythic sense of the arc of your life helps you locate your personal story in a larger one and recover meaning.
Body Wisdom
Many, if not most of us, have experienced a disconnection from the body. Our culture bombards us with unrealistic standards of beauty that cause us to turn on our own bodies, evaluating ourselves from the outside in.
The strain that chronic pain or illness create can also put us at odds with the body. Our emotions become more likely to snap to the surface, and often our relationships struggle.
What’s the difference between psychotherapy and coaching?
Psychotherapy and coaching are both capable of nurturing transformation. The primary distinction is that coaching is, in essence, a mentoring process, whereas psychotherapy is, at its core, a healing process…
